George DAVIS was born in New York in about 1810.
He married Mary WEST in Oakland County, MI on July 27th, 1836. Mary was also born in New York, according to the 1850 census. Her age was given as 35 in August, 1850.
The 1840 Census shows
the family in Saginaw Township. The Census lists:
1 male adult 30-40 years (George DAVIS);
1 female adult 20-30 years (Mary WEST);
1 male child 10 to 15 years (unknown);
1 male child under 5 years (James DAVIS);
1 female child under 5 years (Mary DAVIS);
The 1850 Census shows
them in Saginaw Township. George DAVIS is listed as a Physician on the Census.
His age was listed as 40 in August, 1850. The family shows 5 children:
Mary DAVIS (13), born in Michigan.
James West DAVIS (10), born in Michigan.
Martha DAVIS (6), born in Michigan.
Edward DAVIS (3), born in Michigan.
Lucy DAVIS (1), born in Michigan.
The 1850 Census also shows a George Smith (24 yrs; a student) and Dorcas Tolman (14
yrs) living in the DAVIS household.
An obituary appears in the Saginaw Weekly Enterprise on February 16, 1854, showing that a Dr. George Davis, an "esteemed older citizen" died on February 14, 1854 in Saginaw City of Heart Disease.
